If you suffer from stress over buying gifts - Consider this…

Is choosing gifts for some people on your gift list difficult? How often is it that the only things that come to mind end up being too expensive or just plain impossible to find? And then there is always the fear that what you buy will not be appreciated or even used. The trend I see lately is to give people that are hard to buy for money or gift certificates. Although money always seems appreciated, giving either of these to family members and close friends doesn’t seem appropriate. These gifts are just not personal enough.

So, what is the solution?

There is one gift that is appropriate for any person and just about any occasion. This gift can be given to many people on your list and still be different. It can change the receiver for the better. It can provide positive thoughts of you even years after the gifting event. And, what is that gift? It is a book.

Books are special. They can fulfill a dream, fuel a hobby, inspire, educate and entertain. They connect people. I remember the first “big” book I read, a gift from my older sister who was and still is an avid reader. I was only 8 years old at the time and “The Secret Garden” still has a special place in my heart. My sister shared with me her love of reading with that gift, and it has stayed with me all my life. A love of reading isn’t all you can share with a gift of a book. While bestselling novels are great gifts for those who love to read, non-fiction books make greats gifts for almost everyone.

Books fit all sizes, all ages and can be as personal or general a gift as you want. There are books that cover any interest a person might have. There are inspirational and motivational books that can ignite a significant change in its reader. There are “how to” books that can teach a person just about anything. travel books can whisk its reader away to different lands, biographies explore different lives and life-styles, and large coffee table books explore nature and artistic expressions.

Books come in a variety of forms. Audio books are great gifts for those who commute long distances as well as those who have vision problems. Many books have been made into movies and come on DVD’s, such as the “Harry Potter” series. A popular video right now is “Twilight“. Printed books in hard cover make a nice statement, while paperbacks are more casual.

When the person that received a book looks at it and experiences it, the feelings they have for that book are often felt for a long time. Books never go out of style. They are often treasured for years. So, if you are having a difficult time finding the appropriate gift for someone, consider a terrific book. Both of you will be glad you did.
